Petit maison à la mer I // Modernistisch Detail - study, Avans University of Applied Sciences, Mimizan, France, 2009

An existing beach house had to be redesigned by following the philosophy of Gerrit Rietveld. The requirements were that the blueprint and the masses of the existing design had to remain unchanged. Nevertheless, the facade and the materials were open for alterations.
This sketch design had to fit within the boundaries of a reference project of my choice, both in the materials that are used as well as in the details.

The end product is a design in which every space fits to the activities that take place in that particular space. Furthermore, the adjustments that can be made to the building allow for the creation of a big open space to be created, despite the small acreage.
